The town of Serbin was established in early 1855 after the Wends reached an agreement with Absalom Delaplain to purchase the league of land he had received after the conclusion of the Texas Revolution.

Today we often think of Serbin being the area around St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum, but the original townsite was about a mile northwest of the church and museum on FM 2239.

The decline of Serbin began when the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway bypassed the town in 1890 and the community now known as Northrup was established there.
